Dylan Howe, Photographed in 2017, with a Leica, Full Manual Glory

For these shots of drummer Dylan Howe, made along the 2017 Yes tour of America, we wanted to use a classic, manual focus rangefinder camera and get up close and personal, like in the great Blue Note jazz cover photos (and designs) we love so much. The work of Francis Wolff is incredible.

We were also inspired by the photojournalistic approach of the late, great Jim Marshall, who never travelled without his Leica.

Shooting the Leica was a dream. The small form factor, the quiet operation, and Dylan’s generosity and good nature allowed for the intimate shots you see below.
